The renovation and expansion of concessions areas at Pensacola International Airport will be completed tomorrow when the Airport’s new Chick-Fil-A opens at 4:00 am.
"I’m excited to welcome chicken biscuits and waffle fries to Pensacola International Airport,” said Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward. "With this addition, we have a complete slate of concessions providing travelers with more variety and value as part of our ‘Fly Easy’ experience.”
The Chick-Fil-A joins the Pensacola Beach House bar and restaurant, Einstein Bros. Bagels, and Freshens, all operated by OHM Concessions Group. The post-security Pensacola Beach House features a full kitchen managed by Michael Isabella, a Washington, D.C.-based chef who competed on the sixth season of "Top Chef" and later on "Top Chef All-Stars" and "Top Chef: Duels.” Einstein Bros. Bagels, a leader in the quick-casual segment of the restaurant industry, offers fresh-baked bagels and other baked goods, made-to-order sandwiches, crisp salads and gourmet coffee. Freshens, which bills itself as a "fresh food studio,” focuses on crepes, salads, and flatbreads, along with fresh-blended smoothies and frozen yogurt.
Since transitioning from the previous concessionaire to OHM, food and beverage sales as well as sales per enplaned passenger have risen sharply. Sales are up by more than 15% over last year, and sales per enplaned passenger have increased from an FY14 average of $3.19 to $4.60 in April 2015. The City’s contract with OHM is expected to generate more than $1 million over ten years in additional non-airline revenue for Pensacola International Airport. "Increasing our non-airline revenue will help us reduce the fees we charge airlines, allowing us to better compete for new carriers and new routes,” said Mayor Hayward. "Continuing to grow our airport is critical as we work to secure a larger share of the future for Pensacola.”
