General aviation

The owner or operator of any airport that has been developed with Federal grant assistance is required to operate the airport for the use and benefit of the public and make it available for all types, kinds, and classes of aeronautical activity including the use of government aircraft.

Fixed Base Operator

A commercial operator located at an airport that is required to provide a variety of aeronautical services such as aircraft fueling, flight training, aircraft charter, aircraft maintenance, etc. Pensacola Aviation Center and Innisfree Jet Center provides these services.

Specialized Aviation Service Operators

A commercial operator located at an airport that only provides limited aeronautical services such as flight training or aircraft maintenance.

AVIATION DISCOVERY PARK

The General Daniel “Chappie” James Jr. Aviation Discovery Park Project in Pensacola was undertaken by Pensacola Area Flight Watch, an organization dedicated to the interests of General Aviation, and the promotion of aviation among our youth. The park opened to the public in 2006.
