Social Media User Policy

Introduction
Pensacola International Airport (PNS) is committed to fostering open communication and welcomes feedback and questions from the community. We believe that social media provides a valuable platform for engaging with the public and sharing information about the airport. This social media policy outlines the guidelines for the use of PNS social media by staff (in an official capacity) and the public.

Use of Social Media Sites
To facilitate meaningful interactions, PNS utilizes various social media platforms designated as limited public forums for discussions relevant to the airport. These platforms include:

By engaging with our social media channels, users acknowledge and agree to abide by our social media policy. While we strive to maintain regular monitoring of our social media platforms, our ability to monitor and review user content is not continuous. We periodically monitor our social channels on weekdays, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. While we aim to review all interactions, we may not be able to reply to or address inappropriate content promptly. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in creating a constructive online environment.

Comment Policy
This policy is in place to ensure a positive and respectful online experience for all users. We appreciate your cooperation.

While comments are not pre-moderated, PNS reserves the right to restrict, hide, report, or remove or otherwise block any content that violates the following guidelines:

  • Use obscene, profane, or vulgar language or material, including masked words (***), acronyms, and abbreviations.
  • Promote, foster, or perpetuate discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, faith/religion, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or disease.
  • Make threats, defamatory statements, harassing language, or any content that is abusive, hateful, or disparaging towards individuals, businesses, organizations, or governmental agencies.
  • Incite or promote violence or illegal activities.
  • Provide information that compromises an individual or public safety.
  • Advocate for the election or defeat of any individual to elected public office or promote the passage or defeat of any ballot question or measure.
  • Post spam, including unsolicited, off-topic messages, and unrelated links to other sites.
  • Solicit, promote, or endorse specific commercial services, products, or entities.
  • Violate intellectual property rights or legal ownership interests of another party.
  • Post sensitive or personally identifiable information.
  • Disclose information that may compromise the safety, security, or proceedings of public systems or any criminal or civil investigations.
  • Reveal confidential or proprietary information that is unlawful to disclose.

In the event that PNS decides that content meeting any of the above criteria should be removed, airport staff will take screenshots of the original post and/or comment. Additionally, a description detailing why the content was deemed inappropriate will be maintained.

If an individual believes that a post or comment has been mistakenly removed, we encourage them to reach out to our team at PNS using the contact information provided below. We value collaboration and request that individuals work with us in good faith to reach a mutually agreeable resolution.

Items posted on social media sites are also subject to the terms and conditions of the host site. PNS has no control over the host site’s actions, including the host site’s decision to remove posts that violate its terms and conditions. Individuals agree to release the airport from any liability in connection with any actions taken by the social media host site.

Public Records
Florida has a very broad public records law. Consequently, any written communication created or received by Pensacola International Airport/City of Pensacola officials and employees will be made available to the public and media upon request, unless exempt from disclosure under one of the limited exceptions provided in the Florida Statutes. Email addresses and email communications, under Florida law, are subject to public disclosure. If an individual prefers their email address and communications not to be released in response to a public records request, they should avoid sending electronic mail to this entity. Instead, they should contact the airport by phone, in writing, or in person.

All content, including posts and comments made on Pensacola International Airport’s social media sites, is subject to the Florida Public Records Act, Ch. 119 F.S., or other applicable public records laws. This includes any content that is removed based on a violation of these guidelines. All such content is retained and archived, along with the time, date, and identity of the poster, in accordance with Florida Public Records retention requirements.
